What is Pastoral Counseling?

  • Pastoral Counseling is a well-established discipline that has been practiced for more than a century and is now recognized as a specialized ministry around the world. It integrates spiritual care with professional counseling to support individuals, couples, and families as they navigate life’s challenges.

  • Pastoral Counselors are ordained ministers or rabbis who are extensively educated in the Theology of Pastoral Care and clinically trained at a MA or PhD level. They are licensed in psychotherapy (LPC) and/or marriage and family therapy (LMFT). This unique combination allows them to address emotional, relational, and spiritual concerns with both compassion and professional insight.

  • Counseling provides a safe and confidential space—much like a sanctuary—where individuals can speak openly, gain clarity, and discover inner resources that may not yet be fully realized. Through a trusted counseling relationship, clients are supported in finding the emotional and cognitive understanding needed for healing, growth, and meaningful change.

  • Pastoral Counseling is committed to helping identify and remove the barriers that can leave people feeling disconnected, alone, or overwhelmed. We recognize that change and healing are often difficult journeys, best undertaken in an atmosphere of acceptance, understanding, empathy, and respect.
